Beauty Business

Description
_

A comedy show created to mock the current trend of placing too much value on appearance, with the implication to raise awarenes to prevailing beauty standards and what impacts it may bring.

Concept
I started out with the intention of pointing out how people nowadays, along with the growing social media, became seemingly more attached to each other yet is in fact more detatched. Modern society boasts certain standards of beauty and we start judging people primarily based on whether they fit into these categories or not. This creates a whole industry surrounding beauty, and I think it is worth stopping to think what really lies under these proclaimed effects, and what it is really selling. I do not aim to defame any kinds of standard, but to invite awaremess on the subject of beauty, whether natural or artificial.
Scripts
Good evening, beautiful people! Today, we're diving into the world of aesthetics, but first, let me get my preparation done.

Oh this? Just that I have some trust issues with this topic.

Some time ago an American friend asked me: “Alison, why are many Asian girls so pale?”

“Maybe it’s because we are constantly afraid.”

“afraid of what?”

“Not being pale enough.”

I understand you people from North America or Europe can’t quite get this, like you can’t quite even get enough sunshine. But in Asia we have too much of it it becomes priceless. That’s business in a nutshell.

And to talk about beauty, well THAT is big business too.

We say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I’d say it’s more like “beauty is in the eye of the buyer.”

You promote a form of beauty that is hard to achieve, and suddenly “BOOM”, business is blooming.

But there are also side effects to these beauty standards. It hits particularly hard on the metro system, because so many girls would just walk through the ticket barrier without being caught… either by the staff or by the barrier.

Another downside is that people suddenly become everybody’s best pal, they know you from back to front and inside out, so you get all these comments like “Oh yeah he has been like this forever.”, “Oh that’s the problem with him, bad temper.” and… “hello do we know each other?”, “Oh no I’m from Antartica.”

or maybe that’s actually an improvement? We so lack caring for others in modern society.

But the most serious problem I think, is neither the above,

we have misunderstood the teachings of fairy tales all along.

What’s the motto in Cinnderella? Kindness overcomes evil? no. Have faith in fairy god mothers? no.

Only this: A smaller size wins.
