Foucault’s Land

An experiement to transfer Foucualt’s long text ‘Panopticon’ into a form that is easier for the audience to process. The panopticon is a disciplinary concept brought to life in the form of a central observation tower placed within a circle of prison cells. From the tower, a guard can see every cell and their inmate but not the reverse. Prisoners will never know whether or not they are being watched.

I built human faces into a pillar: the shape of a panopticon. The benumbed faces of the prisoners indicate that while the inmates are disciplined by the guard, they are in the mean time disciplining the watcher.

As the pillar rotates, the faces will speak out my comments on the original text, shown in a game style dialogue box.

I chose a sing-song tone instead of a robotic sound to attract the audience's focus.
